They are called beignets. Typically New Orleans donuts. Our son found them at Shipley Donuts in Houston. He was looking for something similar to Dutch "oliebollen/donuts" traditionally eaten at New Years. He said they were fresh, warm, and yummy. We ate Walmart apple fritters :(. Guess I should have made my own oliebollen. Linda
